Thank you for taking the time to visit the new website for the History & Memories history group. We hope that this site will provide a go to place for everyone who has roots and connections to this beautiful and richly historic part of Co. Sligo.
This group, Kilmactigue Parish History & Memories had its’ origins on a cold Winter night in McGuinness House Aclare, when a number of like-minded individuals got together with the aim of researching, collecting and recording events and deeds of the people of this parish who have gone before us.
From the outset we wished to acknowledge the importance of our local, social and cultural history. Over the past five years we have published two collections of History & Memories of our parish together with a DVD that captured the scenic beauty of this beautiful place.
Through the personal articles, photographs, and extracts from previously published material we hope we have achieved a lasting compilation of our people and our parish.

TRIBUTES TO PADRAIG MAYE (R.I.P.)
On January 31st 2021, we lost our dear friend and history comrade Padraig Maye RIP. The shock of his untimely death left us, his family and the entire community in a state of shock. He was integral part of this community, an irreplaceable husband, Dad, Papa and Great Grandad to his family. In our group he was our friend and colleague who shared with us a love of our parish and our local history.
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions we were all prohibited from affording him the send- off he so richly deserved. In the days and weeks following his death many tributes were paid to him. We would like to share, here with you some of those tributes, they will give to those who didn’t know Padraig a little insight into the wonderful man that was Padraig Maye.
